Ecce - a problem-solving environment's evolution toward Grid services and a Web architecture

چکیده
The Extensible Computational Chemistry Environment (Ecce), an innovative problem-solving environment (PSE), was designed a decade ago, before the emergence of the Web and Grid computing services. In this paper, we briefly examine the original Ecce architecture and discuss how it is evolving to incorporate both Grid services and components of the Web to increase its range of services, reduce deployment and maintenance costs, and reach a wider audience. We show that Ecce operates in both Grid and non-Grid environments, an important consideration given Ecce’s broad range of uses and user community, and discuss the strategies for loosely coupled components that make this possible. Both inprogress work and conceptual plans for how Ecce will evolve are presented.

Next-generation problem solving environments (PSEs) promise significant advances over those now available. They will span scientific disciplines and incorporate collaboration capabilities. They will host featuredetection and other agents, allow data mining and pedigree tracking, and provide access from a wide range of devices. Fundamental changes in PSE architecture are required to realize thes...
متن کاملArchitectural Plan for Constructing Fault Tolerable Workflow Engines Based on Grid Service
In this paper the design and implementation of fault tolerable architecture for scientific workflow engines is presented. The engines are assumed to be implemented as composite web services. Current architectures for workflow engines do not make any considerations for substituting faulty web services with correct ones at run time. The difficulty is to rollback the execution state of the workflo...

متن کاملAutomating Metadata Web Service Deployment for Problem Solving Environments
XML-based metadata information services are a crucial core service needed by Problem Solving Environments built over emerging service-based, globally-scaled distributed systems, as envisioned by the Open Grid Services Architecture and the Semantic Web. Developing user interfaces and services bindings for manipulating instances of particular schemas is thus extremely important and needs to be ma...
متن کاملModeling Services for the Semantic Grid
The Grid has emerged as a new distributed computing infrastructure for advanced science and engineering aiming at enabling sharing of resources and information towards coordinated problem solving in dynamic environments. Research in Grid Computing and Web Services has recently converged in what is known as the Web Service Resource Framework. While Web Service technologies and standards such as ...
